Central Board of Excise and Customs
Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) is a part of the Department of Revenue under the Ministry of Finance, Government of India. It deals with the tasks of formulation of policy concerning levy and collection of Customs and Central Excise duties, prevention of smuggling and administration of matters relating to Customs, Central Excise and Narcotics to the extent under CBEC's purview. The Board is the administrative authority for its subordinate organizations, including Custom Houses, Central Excise Commissionerates and the Central Revenues Control Laboratory.
Central Bureau of Investigation
The Central Bureau of Investigation traces its origin to the Special Police Establishment (SPE) which was set up in 1941 by the Government of India. The functions of the SPE then were to investigate cases of bribery and corruption in transactions with the War & Supply Deptt. Of India during World War II. Superintendence of the S.P.E. was vested with the War Department.
Central Information Commission
Central Information Commission is constituted by the Central Government through a Gazette Notification. The Commission includes one Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) and not more than 10 Information Commissioners (IC) who will be appointed by the President of India.
Central Vigilance Commission
The Central Vigilance Commission was set up by the Government in February,1964 on the recommendations of the Committee on Prevention of Corruption, headed by Shri K. Santhanam, to advise and guide Central Government agencies in the field of vigilance.
Election Commission of India
Election Commission of India is a permanent Constitutional Body. The Election Commission was established in accordance with the Constitution on 25th January 1950. The Commission celebrated its Golden Jubilee in 2001.

The National Archives of India is the repository of the non-current records of the Government of India and is holding them in trust for the use of administrators and scholars. It is an Attached Office of the Department of Culture under Ministry of Tourism & Culture.
National Commission for Backward Classes
Pursuant to the direction of the Supreme Court in the Mandal case judgement, the Government of India enacted the National Commission for Backward Classes Act, 1993 (Act No. 27 of 1993) for setting up a National Commission for Backward Classes at the Centre as a permanent body.
National Commission for Minorities
The setting up of Minorities Commission was envisaged in the Ministry of home affairs resolution dated 12.01.1978 which specifically mentioned that ,despite the safe guards provided in the Constitution and the law in force ,there persists among the Minorities a feeling of inequality and discrimination.
National Commission for Scheduled Castes
The framers of the Constitution took note of the fact that certain communities in the country were suffering from extreme social, educational and economic backwardness arising out of age-old practice of untouchability and certain others on account of this primitive agricultural .These communities were notified as Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes as per provisions contained in Clause 1 of Articles 341 and 342 of the Constitution respectively.

National Commission for Women
The National Commission for Women was set up as statutory body in January 1992 under the National Commission for Women Act , 1990 ( Act No .20 of 1990 of Govt. of India) to review the Constitutional and Legal safeguards for women, etc.

National Crime Records Bureau
The National Police Commission in 1979 recommended creation of a Nodal Agency which would suggest a common formats for maintenance of Crime-Criminal records at all the Police Stations in the country. The same common format should also be utilized to created shareable databases at Police Stations, Districts, States and National Level .
National Literacy Mission
The National Literacy Mission was set up on 5th May,1988 to impart a new sense of urgency and seriousness to adult education.After the success of the areas specific,time bound, voluntary based campaign approach first in Kottayam city and then in Ernakulum district in Kerala in 1990,the National Literacy Mission had accepted the literacy campaigns as the dominant strategy for eradication of illiteracy.
Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser
The tasks of the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India (PSA's Office), therefore involve creation of missions and also undertake mutli-departmental, multi-institutional projects in strategic, technology and other areas of economic/ social relevance.
